Yaacov Afik is president and co-founder of the wellness tech company HYGEAR, which offers smart fitness products that are accessible to all. These products, along with their companion app, allow users to create a personalised routine to work towards their unique health and wellness goals. The company has now started operations in India, recently beginning collaborations with security forces and schools in the country.
Lifestyle
Wellness is a major factor in Mr Afik’s personal lifestyle; it’s important to him to balance physical vitality and professional rigour. To this end, he regularly practices meditation and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and also surfs and regularly takes ice baths. The latter, also known as cold water immersion, may relieve sore or tired muscles, help the central nervous system, reduce inflammation, and decrease the effects of heat and humidity. Cold water immersion has also been linked to helping individuals better cope with stressful situations.
BJJ
BJJ is one of the fastest-growing martial art forms in the world, with an increasing number of people keen to participate due to its range of physical and mental benefits. This grappling-based martial art prioritises leverage and technique over athleticism and strength, meaning that a smaller, weaker practitioner can successfully defend against a stronger, larger opponent using proper leverage, technique and body mechanics. Key concepts in the sport include submission holds, positional hierarchy, ground fighting, and escape and reversal, the latter of which allow practitioners to potentially turn the tables on their opponents.

Mr Afik is the CEO of Afik Group, an international development and construction company operating in Turkey, Israel, Greece, Cyprus and the USA. The group is proud of the reliability and quality of its construction and leverages its wide-ranging experience within the construction industry (as well as its international contacts) to initiate and undertake dozens of projects. In the USA, Afik Group’s areas of operation include Atlanta, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Lima and Toledo. The company, in collaboration with Hero Homes, has been involved in acquiring properties in these areas in need of minor or medium repairs, bringing them to market value within a short time period and reselling them at a high ROI.
Education
Mr Afik is a father of three and holds a law degree from Tel Aviv University, awarded in 1998. In his free time he enjoys reading, surfing and the cuisine of the Middle East. He likes to travel and has visited Sri Lanka, India, the Dominican Republic, Panama and many countries across Europe.
